As we all know and lament, sizing can vary widely from brand to brand. Here’s how things work at Aqua Underwear!

Sizing Tips

  • New size chart! We recently streamlined our size chart. If you own AU boxer briefs or compression undies that were sized with our previous number system, refer to the Low Waist column to find your size. For example, a size 42 is now a size XL.

  • Crop Tops. We recommend measuring the widest part of your torso for best fit. For some that may be your stomach, not your chest. Length is measured from the center shoulder seam, vertically across the nipple, down to the bottom shirt hem.

  • Boxer Briefs. Very stretchy and quite flexible in sizing, especially for softer, squishier bodies. When in doubt, size down. Hip fit comfortably stretches 7-8 inches beyond chart listing.

  • Compression briefs. Only reference the low waist measurement for these garments. Because they don’t cover the hip, that measurement is not needed .

Measuring for Underwear

Knowing your measurements will always get you the best fit, whether you’re ordering ready-to-wear or made-to-order garments!

Measuring Standing

In minimal clothing, stand relaxed, with legs straight and weight evenly distributed, wrap a soft measuring tape around your body, it should be quite snug but not constricting.

Keep the tape as horizontal as possible. Though for low waist measurements, it’s okay to let it contour to your body a bit, slightly higher on your back and lower on your belly - the way a waistband would sit.

Grab a friend, having someone measure for you can be a big help.

Where to Measure

Chest - The widest part of your chest. Often right across the nipples.

Waist - Where your body creases when you bend side to side. About 2 inches above the belly button.

Low waist - About 1 inch below your belly button, at the top of your hip bones.

Hip - The lowest part of your hip, where your leg meets your body and bends. For some it’s also the widest part of the hip. If you have an apron belly, measure underneath it.

Measuring Sitting

Measure with your legs uncrossed, knees and feet shoulder width apart, or in the natural position you spend most of the day.

To measure your hip, look for the crease where your leg and body meet, near the sides of your body (or the widest part of your hip/butt). The tape may be at a 45 degree angle or even almost vertical. It should cross under your belly.

Measuring laying down, is another option that will give you the same results.

Boxer Brief Styles

Classic

Mid-rise waist, 6 inch leg inseam, and gender neutral crotch space.

Based on a height of 5’7” sizes XL and smaller sit an inch or two below the belly button and sizes X and larger sit at the belly button.

Trunk

Low-rise waist, 3 inch leg inseam and gender neutral crotch space.

Packing Underwear Styles

We currently carry 3 styles of packing underwear to meet a variety of fit and packing needs. Each is named after a norther Utah wildflower, cute -we know!

Sego

Trunk with pocket openings on the inside and outside, plus a middle layer with a no-show elasticized o-opening.

Can be worn with any type of packer, but especially designed for packers with a shaft, including stand-to-pee (STP) and pack-and-play options.

Lupine

Trunk with a no-frills pocket on the inside. Perfect for foam packers, though can be worn with any style.

This style does NOT include an o-opening and will not keep a packer in place as well as styles that do. Though because these undies fit snuggly in the crotch and elsewhere it’s still unlikely your packer would move much.

Yarrow

Classic boxer brief with the same packing features as the Sego -pocket openings on the inside and out, plus a no-show elasticized o-opening- as but with a higher waist, longer leg, and traditional fly opening

*The model pictured is wearing these a little lower on the waist than typical. For a person of 5’6” height, the waistband typically sits 1-2” below the belly button.

Measuring tape: Get one!

Don’t have a measuring tape? Try using a string, phone charger cord etc. to wrap around your body, then measure that along a ruler.

Get one! You can order a measuring tape online, or look for them at any craft, fabric or sewing store. Many grocery stores even carry them in the home goods or office supply areas. If you’re local to Salt Lake City, we’re also happy to leave one for you to pick up at Under the Umbrella Bookstore, where we have a consignment rack.
